Since Stage 1 drought conditions were declared on March 25, 2026. Persistent hot and dry weather has continued to strain Front Range water supplies. The first six months of the year (January through June) were the hottest on record, compounding the effects of a below-average winter snowpack. As a result, reservoir storage has fallen to 76% well below the historical average of 96% for this time of year.
Greg Fisher, Denver Water’s Manager of Demand Planning, summarized the current situation:
“As we move into the second half of summer, it is critical that customers limit watering to no more than two days a week, and even less when weather allows. The more water people can conserve, the better change we can begin to recover supplies with a strong winter and avoid even tougher limits on outdoor watering next spring.”
